Elle Se fait la main en jouant avec jazzmen abbey lincoln,gerald wilson,donald byrd, Benny golson ou encore sonny rollins.Elle entame sa carrière solo en avec l'album prelusion. Elle signe entre autre shout it out (1976),posh (1979) et straight from the heart(1982).En 1990, elle enregistre avec le batteur Ndugu Chancler et le saxophoniste Ernis watts the meeting. Patrice Rushen sort en 1994 anything from the heart puis signature en 1987 .
